NEWS

Qkine supports the launch of the UK Stem Cell Network

Although there are many active local stem cell networks, the UK Stem Cell Network (UKSCN) aims to determine whether there is appetite within the UK Stem Cell Community to re-establish a national network, to widen the reach of the excellent work being undertaken locally.

Qkine is supporting this endeavour by being a platinum sponsor, and we’re looking forward to attending the inaugural UKSCN Meeting 16th-17th September 2025.

Qkine sustainability goals selections

Qkine commitment to creating a sustainable future

Our values and the way we approach our science and our business reflect our commitment to making a positive difference to people and our planet.

By empowering the scientists who are creating new technologies such as better models of human disease, regenerative medicines and cellular agriculture we make our contribution to a more sustainable future for all. As we do this, we are dedicated to being a “good” company and we seek ways to reduce waste, be kind to our natural environment and support people in our local and international community.

Panel discussion clip, provided by CARMA

The CARMA (Cellular AgRiculture MAnufacturing) Hub is an EPSRC-funded transdisciplinary seven-year project focused on developing novel approaches to making food products. Their vision is for a just transition to environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable food systems.

CARMA held it’s first in person meeting on the 17th September 2024, at the Guildhall in Bath, UK, bringing together researchers and industry representatives to share their knowledge and experiences. The day was filled with interactive discussions, networking opportunities, and innovative ideas in the field of cellular agriculture manufacturing.

During the meeting a panel discussion brought together industry experts to to inspire early career researchers and demystify research in this industry to highlight and encourage transitions in both directions between academia and industry. The discussion focused on key issues in the cultured meat sector; the current regulatory framework, cell and growth factor selection and academic-industrial relationships.

NEW APPLICATION NOTE

Differential induction of fibrotic signaling pathways in three immortalized lung cell lines with TGF-β1-3

This application note outlines the development and testing of de novo respiratory-related cell lines from inscreenex (bronchial, alveolar epithelial cells and lung fibroblasts). These cell lines exhibit unlimited proliferation and maintain a primary cell-line phenotype, using Qkine TGF-β1 (Qk010), TGF-β2 (Qk072) and TGF-β3 (Qk054) to stimulate the expression of lung fibrosis markers.

Human KGF (FGF-7) protein

Human KGF protein (FGF-7)  is a member of the FGF family. KGF protein is used in the culture of lung, breast, liver, and bladder organoids.

KGF FGF-7 bioactivity

Qkine keratinocyte growth factor (KGF)/fibroblast growth factor 7 (FGF-7) bioactivity is comparable to an alternative supplier protein.

FGF-2

FGF-2, also known as basic FGF or bFGF, is the essential component in all embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cell media for the maintenance of pluripotency.

Qkine manufacture 2 forms of FGF-2, the original 154 aa form and a shortened 145 aa version for optimal bioactivity. Read more about 145 aa FGF-2.

Species-specific and thermostable forms of these versions are also available.

FGF2-G3 (Qk053, green) is a bioactive and high-quality thermostable engineered form of FGF-2 (Qk027, black). FGF2-G3 supports cost-effective cell culture, preventing the need for frequent media changes (stable for > 7 days in culture).

All our growth factors are manufactured within a stringent quality framework, ensuring high-quality proteins that maintain robust, reproducible, and physiologically relevant stem cell and organoid cultures that adhere to our Nine-point Quality Commitment.
