January

2024 started very strong with the launch of IL-1ß as part of our mesenchymal stem cell range. TGF-ß2 to complete our TGF-beta family and DKK-1, the first commercially available bioactive animal origin-free recombinant DKK-1.

Recombinant human IL-1β protein (Qk101)

IL-1β is used to stimulate and activate immune cells (macrophages and T cells), maintain hematopoietic progenitor cells, and modulate the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells.

Recombinant human DKK-1 protein (Qk068)

DKK-1 has been widely used in various applications including guiding stem cell differentiation, particularly in neural and osteogenic pathways.

Recombinant human TGF-β2 protein (Qk072)

Transforming Growth Factor beta 2 (TGF-β2), part of the TGF-β superfamily, regulates a wide array of cellular processes, including proliferation, differentiation, wound healing, apoptosis, metabolism, embryogenesis, and tissue repair. It is an essential growth factor in many embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cell culture media.

February saw the launch of two new hematopoietic stem cell proteins, interleukins, IL-4 and IL-6.

IL-4 plays a crucial role in hematopoiesis, the regulation of antibody production, the stimulation of activated B cell and T cell proliferation, and the differentiation of B cells into plasma cells.

Recombinant human IL-6 (Qk093)

IL-6 is suitable for the culture of reproducible and high-quality hematopoietic stem cells and other relevant cells.

March

In our commitment to supply species-matched growth factors, in March Qkine launched mouse EGF, bovine/porcine FGF2-G3 and salmon FGF-2. FGF2-G3 is a thermostable modification of FGF-2 and was launched in the 154 aa and shorter more bioactive 145 aa versions. We also further expanded our hematopoietic stem cell range with TNF-alpha.

Mouse EGF is crucial for stem cell maintenance, proliferation, differentiation, organoid culture growth and survival. It is also widely used for disease modelling, drug screening, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. Overall, EGF is a key player in cellular regulation and functions.

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) is a cytokine involved in cell signaling, primarily produced by immune cells like macrophages. It plays a central role in inflammation, immunity, and regulating cell survival and death. Qkine TNF-α is suitable for the culture of reproducible and high-quality hematopoietic stem cells and other relevant cells.

Stem cell factor (SCF) is a critical factor in the maintenance and expansion of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in the bone marrow microenvironment. Key myeloid progenitor differentiation factor for a variety of myeloid cells such as megakaryocytes, basophils, neutrophils, and monocytes, SCF is also a primary growth and activation factor for mast cells and eosinophils.

The FGF family was the focus in May, with the launch of FGF-18, a key osteogenic differentiation factor and to join salmon FGF-2 for cultivated fish, tuna FGF-2 154 aa and 145 aa.

July was an exciting month, Qkine launched its first extracellular matrix protein, human vitronectin which was validated for use in iPSC maintenance in our weekend-free protocol.

Bovine PDGF-BB (platelet-derived growth factor BB) protein is a homodimer of PDGF-B peptide chains. PDGF-BB can be used for the development of optimized serum-free culture media for species-specific bovine in cellular agriculture protocols. PDGF-BB can be added to bovine culture medium to promote rapid and efficient cell division, maintain high cell proliferation rates in bioreactors, promote the maturation of bovine myoblasts into myotubes and stimulate the production of extracellular matrix components.

In August we launched IL-7 to join our hematopoietic stem cell range and our high quality food grade proteins. Qkine has close links to the cellular agriculture sector and supports both academic and industrial partners.
