Technote | BMP-2 (Qk007)
Qkine bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) has higher bioactivity than BMP-2 from an alternative supplier
Human bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) is a key regulator of embryogenesis and supports the differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and embryonic stem cells (ECS). BMP-2 plays roles in the differentiation of mesenchymal cells to adipocytes, epithelial cancer EMT, chondrogenesis and regulation of neuronal and glial cell development.
Qkine BMP-2 (Qk007) has high bioactivity, allowing lower concentrations to be used in media for cost-effective cell culture.
Qkine BMP-2 bioactivity
- Qkine animal origin-free BMP-2 (Qk007) was found to be highly bioactive with an EC50 of 3.2 ng/ml.
- This was higher than the bioactivity of an alternative supplier protein, which had an EC50 of 9.6 ng/ml.

Qkine BMP-2 has higher bioactivity than an alternative supplier. Bioactivity was determined using a BMP-2-responsive firefly luciferase reporter assay in stably transfected HEK293T cells. Cells were treated with a serial dilution of Qkine BMP-2 (Qk007, green) or Peprotech (AF-120-02, supplier B, black). Protein concentrations were measured before use (Peprotech vial recovery 74%, Qkine 95%). Firefly luciferase activity was measured and normalized to the control Renilla luciferase activity. Data from Qk007 lot #204510.
Qkine recombinant proteins have the advantage of being highly pure and animal origin-free, giving lot-to-lot consistency in bioactivity for long-term reproducible culture of stem cells and organoids.
